Tom X. Chao was chosen to "Make Jeff Bezos Laugh" at an event produced by Modern Humorist and sponsored by Amazon.com. However, because he did not understand the assignment, he failed to make Bezos laugh or even smile politely.

In New York, Tom has been commissioned to write, direct, and perform works at Dixon Place, HERE, The Knitting Factory, P.S.122, St. Marks Theater (Horse Trade Theater Group), on WBAI-FM and at D.U.M.B.O. Art Under The Bridge, Pure Pop and New York International Fringe festivals. He is a regular guest at variety shows including Timsloft, The Carmen Mofongo Show, First Tuesdays at The Cornelia St. Cafe, and The Shark Show at the Slipper Room.

The television program "Asian American Spotlight" on Manhattan Neighborhood Network has devoted an entire episode to him. Most recently, Tom presented his radio play, "The Scientists," live on stage at Surf Reality, and the show is being readied for broadcast.

Tom holds a degree in Cinema Production from the University of Southern California, where he also studied fiction with T. Coraghessan Boyle, Richard Yates, John Rechy, and Hubert Selby. He earned a Master's Degree from NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
