The Matchmakers

The isolated stretch of beach on the Delaware Bay was deserted except for Kathleen and the two girls. Its location, a little over a mile from the house, made it one of their favorite haunts. The three of them often rode here on their ten-speed bicycles to spend an hour or an afternoon or a day.

Today, more than ever before, Kathleen welcomed the chance to get away from the house. Even though Jordan was gone, his ghost dominated the rooms, filling her with the sensation of his presence. In the privacy of her heart, she could admit that she had fallen on love with him, even if she would never say the words out loud.
